CHAPTER ONE

Jen nudged Vesta’s shoulder, wanting some attention from her favorite human. But did so by reaching her long, broad neck forward, so she didn't have to move any closer to the river. Vesta laughed and turned to scratch the red colored head of the red and blue kinta. The huge 7-foot-tall native being resembled the llamas of Earth, but with the greater speed of a horse and the desert resources of a camel. They had the three eyelids of a camel and no whites to their eyes. Her broad horse-like nose down to her forelegs were bright red. But from her shoulders to her butt to her tail and down her hind legs, she was a vivid blue. But neither of those Earth animals which the kinta resembled could match these Deserta natives’ incredible intelligence.

“So, Jen, what do you think of our new river?” Vesta asked aloud of her furry friend. She tipped her head up and to the side so she could see Jen. Though the kinta couldn’t respond vocally, they understood spoken words, and would reply telepathically.

Jen snorted. “Big.” she said.
